What is the minimum temperature where lost luggage are stored at airports?
Q. What is the minimum temperature where lost luggage are stored at airports before they are delivered to the right people? This may of course vary between different airports, but in general, they don't heat up a room to store luggage, or do they?

What temperature does the luggage compartment of an airplane reach during international flights?
Q. I have reserved a flight from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Shanghai, China. I need to bring a diabetes monitoring kit along with me, but some of the items can not be frozen. Does the temperature of the luggage compartment go below 36 Deg.F at any point during the flight?
Asked by Joe - Fri Oct 16 20:49:07 2009 - Air Travel - 5 Answers - Comments
A. Carry the kit with you in the passenger cabin. You might need to check your blood glucose level during the flight, anyway. Some holds are heated, some aren't. When they aren't, the temperature can drop very low, and certainly could drop below 36deg F. It depends on the aircraft, the location of the cargo, and the flight (pilots have the option of adjusting heat in the cargo hold on some aircraft, when heating is available).

What is the process to get my checked luggage from one carrier to another when I have a layover?
Q. I'm flying into La Guardia tomorrow on American and then I have to transfer to Delta. I'm planning on carrying on my luggage, but since I'm group 4 to board I'm afraid there won't be room in the overhead compartment. Is there anything specific I need to do to make sure my luggage makes it on the Delta flight if they force me to check it?
Asked by janehart21 - Fri Jul 6 10:34:07 2007 - Air Travel - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Most airlines have interairlines-contract about luggage transferring from points to points. At the first check-in counter, you should let them know that you have another tickets and show them the actual destination of your trip. By looking at your luggages they can tell you immediately if you can take them on the plane or have to check them in. Sometimes, they will let you take them as carry-on but they will tag them to the final destination just in-case the aircarft is full, when they put them in hold for a while. Your belongings will be OK. Good luck!

Does luggage travel with you across different airlines?
Q. I'm from Canada, and am planning a trip to Singapore; but the best travel itinerary I can find takes me from Canada to China on Air Canada, and then from China to Singapore on Singapore Airlines. My concern is the hassle of having to get my checked luggage when I arrive in China, and then re-checking in on Singapore Airlines, and re-checking my luggage. So 1) Will I be able to check in on both airlines (and get my boarding passes) when leaving Canada? 2) Will my baggage travel with me all the way to Singapore? Thanks in advance.
Asked by someguy29 - Tue Oct 26 17:27:37 2010 - Air Travel - 4 Answers - Comments
A. The first answer is inaccurate -- the correct answer to your question has nothing to do with whether AC and Singapore Airlines have codeshare agreements. Rather, what matters is whether these two airlines have interline baggage and ticketing agreements. If two airlines do have these agreements, then the first airline will be able to check in a passenger on the second airline's flights, as well as transfer luggage between the two. According to the page linked below, interline ticketing agreements exist between Air Canada and Singapore -- this means that you'd be able to check in for both flights with the Air Canada agent when you check in, and your luggage would be checked all the way through to Singapore. You may wish to double-check with… [cont.]

Airplane luggage - are you allowed to carry a smaller suitcase in a bigger one as checked-in luggage?
Q. I've just bought a new luggage set and would like to take all of them with me, because I will be needing them for the return journey. So I intend to place the two smaller suitcases in the bigger one and fill them up with stuff. I have a 32 kg weight limit, so this shouldn't be a problem. Will they let me do this or make me check in the empty suitcases separately? Thanks.

What is the best way to identify luggage in order to identify on the airport carousel?
Q. As I understand it, just tying a ribbon on your luggage handle or the standard id tag will not do the trick..I have observed some luggage that has some small strips of bright tape, wonder what type of tape it is & where one might obtain. This tape seems to be very durable.

A. You can buy all types of very strong and brightly colored tape at any hardware store and many stationary stores, just don't tape over the zippers where airport security may have to remove the tape should they want to inspect the contents of your bag.

How do I travel with Louis Vuitton luggage on a plane?
Q. I have alot of LV luggage and none of it classifies as carry on so it would have to go in the luggage compartment. But first off, I want to make sure that it is handled with care and secondly I want to make sure that no one but myself has access to it because I wouldn't want someone to leave the airport with my luggage. I've never traveled with designer luggage before. Anyone?
Asked by Kenny - Sat Jan 19 23:50:54 2008 - Air Travel - 8 Answers - 2 Comments
A. All luggage is treated equally. And thats bad. I bought a brand new high quality piece of luggage for a trip to Greece. On the way there, one zipper tag was pulled off and on the way back the other was pulled off, rendering it useless for future vacations. The luggage handlers arent going to say "be careful...its Louis Vuitton". Theyre going to toss it into the cargo with all the nameless black bags. Luggage needs to be durable not designer.

What's the best way to send unaccompanied luggage to Canada from Korea?
Q. I'm a Canadian living in Korea and would like to send most of my luggage home unaccompanied because I would like to do a bit of backpacking before returning home. What's the best (or the cheapest) way to send my luggage home? I'll have two large suitcases each weighing around 40 -50lbs. Also, is there anything extra I need to know if I'd like to send my laptop too?
Asked by Nadia - Thu Jan 24 00:16:27 2008 - Packing & Preparation - 2 Answers - Comments
A. You may want to look into shipping it with UPS, Fed-Ex or other global package company. UPS and Fed-Ex ship luggage all the time for people who don't want to deal with the hassle of checking bags. If you're going to ship your lap top, make sure that it is wrapped in bubble wrap and then placed into a box w/ packing peanuts. You'll also want to insure the box incase of loss or damage.

A. usually two, but each airline is different, and worst case, after you get through security, you can "gate check" a bag if it doesn't fit in the cabin. so at least you know it got on the same plane as you. good luck.

How do they check your luggage when traveling on a bus from Pennsylvania to Canada?
Q. Will they search our us or our luggage when going on a bus trip from Pennsylvania to Canada?
Asked by Silkie - Thu Jun 2 19:17:10 2011 - Niagara Falls - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Not typically. Immigration or Customs Canada can of course inspect anything brought into the country they wish. However, they rarely inspect passenger vehicles or buses unless they suspect something -- a passport scan triggers an alert, they have prior knowledge of someone entering the country illegally, etc. In some cases, they might randomly ask the bus to open its cargo area and run a drug sniffing dog around it. Most vehicle crossing have tens of thousands of vehicles passing through each day. They normally don't have time to look through trunks, individual bags, etc.

What other luggage space is there in a mooney aircraft?
Q. I know there is a luggage compartment in the back of the plane but is there one in the nose. I know some planes do have that. Does a mooney have a nose luggage compartment?
Asked by hhhhhhhhhhhhhh - Mon Aug 10 12:30:35 2009 - Aircraft - 5 Answers - Comments
A. You can carry a **LOT** of luggage in the back area. I have a family of 4 and we travel down into Mexico for 3 weeks at a time. We load that baby up!! The best part of the Mooney is that the baggage door is correctly located near the top so you don't need to climb over the back seat to load to the top as you do with Cessna's and Bonanzas. The Mooney has a great useful load, don't let its super long range dissuade you in its useful load. 182 drivers think they are cool because they can carry full fuel, but if you only filled the Mooney with enough fuel to fly the short distance a 182 can go, you'd fill all the seats too. Longest leg I've done in the Mooney was 7 hours crossing all the way down Socal and Baja with fuel to spare.

What kind of luggage is a good buy and how much it cost?
Q. I'm in Dubai nowadays and I want to buy a luggage that does not break easily since most of the airports luggage staff are just throwing recklessly the luggages. I'm thinking of having a vibrant color (Benetton is a choice) and of course with good quality. Please mention the costs also. Thank you!

A. My luggage is a converted fiberglass toolcase modified to take the shoulder strap from a Sony Beta Cam Camera and it's nearly indestructable... and it fits under the seat in ANY airliner. You DO know the airlines are charging for baggages now... right?... typically $15 ro $25 for the first bag... $50 to $100 for the second bag and $150 or more for the third bag... and that will probably go up in the future.

Q. I am living in South Korea and I am planning on sending some luggage home. I went to the post office and they don't ship luggage there and only ship rather small boxes. I have been having a really hard time trying to find somewhere that ships oversized boxes/luggage for not crazy expensive. Any ideas?
